Creating the Autumn Pumpkin

Using the Ellipse Tool make a circle. Double-click on the colour chip to change the fill colours.

Click on the Gradient Tool and then change the gradient colour.

Using the Gradient Tool customize the gradient by dragging in the circle.

Select the circle and click Expand. Select Gradient Mesh.

Using the Mesh Tool add lines. Use the Direct Selection Tool to add colour by dropping onto the sections.

With the Mesh Tool, click the outside circle to create lines.

For each highlight area choose the points in the column and then click on the colour. Add one more column with the Mesh Tool.

Open the layer to create the features and lock the pumpkin group..

For the eyes, create ovals for the background. Create another oval with black fill and white stroke. Finally, create a white fill circle for the highlight area. Group all the eye pieces, and then duplicated the eye.

For the nose create a triangle filled with orange and a black stroke using the Pen Tool. Duplicate Control+C and then Control+F to paste in front. Take off the stroke by unchecking the Stroke colour and then hold the Shift key down to reduce the size of the second triangle.

Make the mouth using the Pen Tool.

To make the inside of the mouth, duplicate the shape twice and move one up a little. Then choose both the pieces and use the Subtract from Shape Area in the Pathfinder menu. Choose the Paintbrush Tool and paint the curly cue lines. Each time deselect before making the next one. When you finish, group them and duplicate them. For the one set under the green reduce the Transparency.
